A Year

Posted by Tomothy · December 31st, 2009 · No Comments

Another year is ending.

I don’t know how I feel about that yet.

I’m glad uni is over for the year, but I am also looking forward to being back at uni. I’ll be studying my Masters of Teaching in Art and English at Sydney. I think what I’m looking forward to is doing something different that still relates to Art (and English too I suppose). I am a little bit nervous about the teaching part, but I think I can overcome that.

2009 was a year of not making art. I did end up having work included in two shows, but they were both works from 2008. Part of the blame for this art drought lays at the feet of my university studies. I have also been struggling to understand where my art practice fits in with my life as a Christian, a question I’m not sure I’ve fully resolved. I have however started an internship (part of the emerging curators mentorship program) at ATVP which has kickstarted some vague ideas I had for work. I am hoping that, with Cat’s help, 2010 will be a better year for artmaking.

Speaking of Cat, our relationship has been a crazy wild ride at times. We’ve had our fights and tantrums (I’ve nearly been dumped a few times already). But we’ve also shared amazing days and nights together. I love her and she loves me, and it’s hard not to enjoy that. She is in the Philippines at the moment and I am looking forward to having her back.

We are not quite at the one year mark yet, but I think that our anniversary may be the year’s end that really matters to me.
